here is a visual representation of why American’s wouldn’t buy kei cars. found while searching the interwebs for pics of old Hondas

a 70-74 Honda Z600 next to a Scat-urn Vue. the Vue is a SMALL SUV as SUVs go, but next to the little Z600 it looks like a monster truck.

They don’t seem to do so badly (though note that JNCAP tests at slower speeds than US crash tests)

I had one of those Z coupes once. Great car. Mine was olive green. I see a blue one like that in L.A. every once in a while and it makes me squee like a little girl.

I really want it. I know where there is a baby blue one stashed away in a garage, but the owner passed away and the family can’t figure out who it belongs to therefor no one will sell it.

That’s too bad. You really should try and get it. They’re dead simple to work on and they’re probably the most usable microcar you can get with that 600 motor. I would take mine on the freeway all the time. And the Z’s are rarer and cooler than the N sedan. Parts availability is not bad, too, relatively.

To be fair I can’t fit in anything smaller than a modern supermini. I doubt I could drive that, I know for a fact I can’t drive an original mini properly...

Get ‘M classified as autocycles like Elio is trying to do, then you can ignore crash tests and choose your own risk like motorcyclists.

I absoltely love old Hondas. Here’s a picture I took the other day. My ‘15 Civic compared to an early model Colorado. They are the same height. I miss the old small trucks.

Anecdotally, I feel like having a smaller car has helped me maneuver out of accidents much easier, especially potential side-swipes. It helps to have a reasonably speedy car though.

I’m usually very adverse to those loud colors on cars. But it just works for that car. Helps it stand out in a sea of Civics, but at the same time doesn’t look out of place. Thanks!
